The older I become, the more that I realize that we as humans don’t really know how to take care of ourselves. Like, seriously! We are aware of the basics like eat fruit, eat vegetables, drink water, but the older we get the more it becomes so complex. We are aware that we’re supposed to eat a “balanced meal,” but really, how do you balance all the food groups each day to get the nutrients that could be found in a multivitamin? Okay, so I know that it isn’t healthy to eat fast food all day, every day, but even if the food isn’t “fast” there are reports that say you shouldn’t eat red meat multiple times a week and you should limit your intake of bacon at breakfast. Well, if bacon intake is limited during breakfast each day, then it almost seems like we’ve reached out weekly pork max before adding in barbeque pork or pork roast, etc. If you couldn’t tell by now, I was clearly raised in the south and I’ve always thought of food as my comfort. Food has always been around during each occasion, happy, sad, or indifferent. I’m still a young lady, but the past year has taught me that I need to pay closer attention to the food that I put into my body.
While food has always been there for me, I’ve learned over the past 6 months that I can still function off of different types of food that are better for my body. Nowadays, I eat mostly chicken and turkey, while incorporating beef and pork occasionally. I loved fish and seafood growing up, but recent allergy scares have deterred me from such foods, but hopefully not forever. I try really hard to avoid added sugar as the main switch for me was to go from juices full of added sugar to just water. In my household growing up, we didn’t really keep sodas in the house, but I would get soda when out and about at restaurants. Now, even if I am out and about, I will still request water! This is a huge change for some people as they absolutely need to have something more fun to drink, but hey try drinking more water for a while and see how your body reacts!
The combination of eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking more water, and staying abreast of numbers within food such as cholesterol, sodium, and carbohydrates has aided me in my journey to a healthier me! This blog page is dedicated to those who also want to get healthier, but don’t know where to start as I am right there with you. Most days, I don’t know where to start either. The smell of fresh baked cookies is hard to avoid, and don’t event get me started on the smell of a good restaurant when you forgot to plan your meal or pack your lunch. My goal is to just start. To begin making small changes everyday that lead to a healthier me! This page isn’t solely dedicated to food health as there are so many components that lead to overall health, especially mental health.
Stay tuned for tips along my journey to Become Healthier!
