Snooze, an A.M. Eatery does pancakes right!! If you have not heard of this breakfast/brunch restaurant before, that could be because they are slowly but surely beginning to establish their footprint in North Carolina, starting with three (3) locations in the Charlotte area. Be sure to wake up early if you are planning to visit, because they typically close at 2:30 p.m. with a weekend exception of 4 p.m. closure times on both Saturday and Sunday.
For clarity, yes everything that you see pictured is my food! Like Planet Fitness, this blog is a judgement free zone. So . . . aht aht!! I have visited this restaurant twice and in my humble opinion, the best thing on their menu is their pancakes. My initial visits were during Fall 2022, so I took full advantage of their seasonal menu.

I am definitely a pancakes over waffles type of person, with the exception of chicken and waffles. Over the years I have developed a minor nut allergy that shows up when it wants, so I modified my pancake orders to be void of nuts.

What I Ate (Visit One):
  • Pumpkin Pecan Pie Pancakes (minus the pecans) that has cream cheese filling in its center and is covered in caramel sauce with sweet cream drizzled over the top.
  • Pumpkin Spice Bacon that is seasoned with both pumpkin spice and brown sugar.
  • Grits
  • Eggs

Hands down, my favorite menu item from this visit was the pumpkin pancakes. Well clearly it was only one, so correction, my favorite thing from my order was the pancake because it was moist, slightly fluffy, full of flavor and sugar. I did not find the sugar overwhelming, but if you do not love sugar then you might want to try their basic buttermilk pancakes. I am not fond of pork bacon, so I did find the pumpkin bacon too salty for my liking. However, the brown sugar and pumpkin spice seasoning was a nice touch. I would be curious to see if they could translate that flavor to turkey bacon. Their grits and eggs were your typical, but I did not eat them immediately. So, maybe that is not a fair assessment since I was not able to get to them when they were warm.

What I Ate (Visit Two):
  • Signature Pancake Flight that includes three (3) of their popular pancakes, but I subbed for my preferred choice:
    • Pumpkin Pecan Pie Pancakes (minus the pecans) with cream cheese filling in its center and is covered in caramel sauce with sweet cream drizzled over the top.
    • Cranberry Orange Pancakes (minus the almond streusel) that is covered in orange anglaise, drizzled with cranberry coulis, and finished with a dollop of cranberry mascarpone.
    • Blueberry Danish Pancakes (minus the almond streusel) covered in blueberry coulis with a lemon flavored cream cheese in its center, and is finished with drizzles of sweet cream.
  • Chicken sausage
  • Hash browns (cooked hard and pressed flat)

My food experience was definitely better the second time around. I ditched the bacon, grits, and eggs and instead went for their chicken sausage and hashbrowns. The latter typically comes in a cup shape with a parsley garnish, but I got mine without garnish and cooked harder and pressed flat. They were good! Their ketchup at the restaurant isn’t your typical Heinz, but they do have hot sauce options that can pick up that slack. Some people are Heinz ketchup snobs, if that is the case, then you better bring your own ketchup packets.

I enjoyed their chicken sausage, but felt like they could have eased up on the cooking time. I couldn’t quite figure out if it was cooked too well that made it a bit dry. Obviously, I wanted it cooked all the way but never mentioned it to the server so maybe that it just how it is prepared.

As far as the pancakes. . . THEY WERE AMAZING!! The pumpkin spice pancake was just as I remembered, but the blueberry pancake captured my heart. Am I dramatic? Of course! That still does not change the FACT that they did their thing with that recipe. The cranberry orange pancake is a different story, but it lowkey held its own. It took me a minute to get used to the flavor, because I have never had orange anything on a pancake. Once the orange anglaise soaked into the pancake, I decided to spread the cranberry mascarpone over the entire pancake and it was so good!

Pancakes Ranked by Preference (void of nut allergens)
  1. Blueberry Danish Pancakes
  2. Pumpkin Pecan Pie Pancakes
  3. Cranberry Orange Pancakes

All in all, I definitely would recommend this restaurant. It’s a good vibe that creates a nice break from reality. The staff are nice as well. This restaurant is quickly gaining popularity, so their wait times have increased. Definitely plan ahead if you will be visiting during the weekend.
Let me know in the comments below your thoughts on their menu!

I would love to know what you want to try and/or what you have tried and enjoyed . . . or not so much.
