A captivating comparison shot, side-by-side, of Bath & Body Works’ Salted Shorelines and Jo Malone’s Wood Sage and Sea Salt. This dupe vs. designer showdown features the former in powdery baby blue in body cream and body mist. The designer fragrance is pictured in a clear bottle with Jo Malone’s classic label in tan with black text finished with a bow tie in the front of its holder.

Sage it all. In the world of So MoTiFFated, we talk a lot about the external. The perfect dress and the sharpest business strategy. However, as an Editor-in-Chief who keeps her pulse on the world, I know that the external can only carry you so far if your internal peace is under siege. With the current political climate feeling more like a storm than a season, I have found myself leaning into a different kind of cleansing ritual.

I have never been someone to literally sage a home with a bundle of herbs, although it is definitely on my bucket list. For me, perfume is my aromatherapy. It is my way of clearing the air and resetting my vibration without saying a word. When the world feels heavy and the headlines are loud, I use scent to reclaim my territory. It is about intentionally shifting the energy of the room to match my own standard of excellence.

We are taught to spread kindness like confetti. While I am a firm believer in grace, I am also an MBA who understands the law of diminishing returns. You cannot pour from an empty vessel. If you are constantly giving, constantly empathizing, and constantly absorbing the weight of the world, you will eventually reach max capacity. Speaking from experience, it is vital to let go of things that do not serve you.

There is a profound importance in knowing when it is time to be selfish. Start with self-care and self-love and hold it tight. Protecting your energy is actually an act of preservation. It is knowing when to close the door, spray your favorite mist, and stop the leak of your own power. You have to clear the air for yourself before you can ever hope to be a light for anyone else.

This practice of scent-driven peace is exactly why I am so glad I was introduced to Salted Shorelines. It served as my official gateway to the prestige world of Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt. While the Jo Malone bottle is a $170 investment in mineral sophistication, the Salted Shorelines dupe from Bath & Body Works gives me the freedom to spray like my peace depends on it, because it does.

The note of sage in both formulas has been an anchor for me. Sage is earthy and dependable. It does not scream for attention like a bold floral. It sits close to the skin, whispering of driftwood and coastal air. Wearing this scent feels like a personal reset button. It reminds me to stay rooted in my own joy regardless of what the news cycle is saying. One of my undergraduate bachelor’s degrees was in political science, so I know how intriguing it can be to follow the politics. Things seem different now. Preserving your peace is not dimming your light. Know that and know yourself enough to know when you need to unplug. A great scent is a good start.

Whether you are using the $18.95 mist to refresh your space or the prestige Jo Malone bottle for a quiet moment of reflection, the message is the same. Use your fragrance to clear the negative energy. Protect your capacity. Be the first person you choose to be kind to today.

SALTED SHORELINES

SALTED SHORELINES: $18.95
  • Fragrance Family: Warm & Woodsy
  • Key Notes: Dewy Bergamot, Warm Sage, Salted Driftwood
Close your eyes. Imagine you just smelled Salted Shorelines for the first time. What does it remind you of in this moment? Based on the title alone, it places you at a beach on vacation. Better yet, your life is a vacation because we get to be whatever we tell ourselves that we are. As your toes are in the sand, the water ripples to your feet, and its full of salt water. Boom. There goes the name of the title. A fun play on Jo Malone’s Wood Sage & Salt that surprisingly packs a bolder punch.

If you’re new to Bath & Body Works’ Everyday Luxuries Collection, then welcome. I have created several beauty articles that decode their designer matches. This years is 6 Scents, 5 New Muses: Decoding 2026’s Bath & Body Works Designer Inspired Dupes. Typically, the B&BW dupes are sweeter and slightly softer in scent than the designer fragrances that inspired their creations. Well, the beauty in this one is Salted Shorelines broke the mold and created her own path. Bravo.

At first spray, it physically transports you to a beach where the waves touch your feet. Its dewy bergamot serves as crisp sophistication that offers a zesty citrus brightness that has remnants of a warm cup of Earl Grey tea. It provides you with an immediate uplifting energy  that clears the air and sets the beautiful blue stage for its earthy sage counterpart to follow. Warm sage brings a layer of grounding, that roots you in calm, and reminds you to be selfish with your energy. Its note standouts from its trio and mimics that of a relaxing scent that you would find in a high-end spa. It is an herbal note that adds sophistication and depth, transforming you beyond a body mist and into a full-on therapeutic experience because of aroma. The dry down features the note of salted driftwood, a weathered timber scent filled with sea salt that creates a base that clings to your skin. It is the final touch that makes it feel both peaceful and expensive.

WOOD SAGE & SEA SALT

WOOD SAGE & SEA SALT: $170
  • Fragrance Family: Mineral Woody
  • Key Notes: Top: Ambrette Seeds, Middle: Sea Salt, Base: Sage
Jo Malone’s Wood Sage & Sea Salt is a soft addition whose impact is subtle. Coming in at a $170 price point, if you are sensitive to bold scents this one could be best for you. Jo Malone is a British fragrance house, founded in 1994, that serves as a masterclass in strategic luxury while keeping its minimalist boutique soul. At So MoTiFFated, I emphasize the importance of combining fancy and frugal. It is a great philosophy for layering, with expensive and cost-efficient. Jo Malone captures that essence through fragrance combining, so none of their fragrances lean too heavy. It is a brand built for the curator who understands that true prestige lies in the purity of the ingredients and the sophistication of the blend.

I had to learn that through my research, because as I scent tested in the store I could barely smell the exquisite perfume. The staff member said, “oh no, she’s gone nose blind.” Then, I ditched the tester stick where I sprayed the fragrance and went all in spraying it on my forearm. As I sniffed with intention, the soft scent began to have life. Its mirrors the scent of fresh skin out the shower, but provides a layer of freshness that is unmatched even to its Salted Shorelines dupe. It is the scent of quiet luxury. There is no announcement with a shout, it invites people in with a whisper. Wood Sage & Sea Salt is the perfect choice you want your presence to feel felt and not announced. They will get the memo as you walk past, owning the room, with all the confidence in the world.

The Comparison The Match: Salted Shorelines The Muse: Wood Sage & Sea Salt
Fragrance Family Warm & Woodsy Mineral Woody
Top Notes Dewy Bergamot Ambrette Seeds
Middle Notes Warm Sage Sea Salt
Base Notes Salted Driftwood Sage
The Investment $18.95 $170.00
I am far beyond telling my audience to choose. As someone who double majored in undergraduate school, started a blog just before enrolling in my MBA during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, clearly, I don’t put myself in a box. I would not encourage you to do the same. So, it’s not about settling. It is about strategy. If you want a scent  that is powerful enough to incorporate in your every day, fresh enough for aromatherapy for your home, car, or office, then Salted Shorelines might be your best friend. On the other hand, if you want a more concentrated scent that contains a calm confidence for your formal event or high-stakes meeting, adding a layer of prestige, then Wood Sage & Sea Salt is your winner.

By having both in your collection, you are practicing the ultimate form of fragrance excellence. You have the freedom of the mist and the authority of the perfume. In a world that is often loud and chaotic, having this mineral duo at your disposal ensures that your personal atmosphere remains exactly how you like it: peaceful, grounded, and impeccably scented.
