A side-by-side comparison of Hello Happiness by Bath & Body Works and Clinique Happy, both citrus scents, with the former inspired by the designer classic. B&BW’s bottles show body cream and body mist, both in bright orange, while Clinique Happy is a clear bottle showing whose fragrance liquid is clear as well.

As soon as I saw Hello Happiness in the 2026 Everyday Luxuries by Bath & Body Works lineup, I knew it was a play on Clinique Happy. The scent was fresh on my mind because I was speaking to a staffer about this fragrance while running an errand just a week prior. Every time I stop by that place, the staff members tell me how nice I smell, and being known as someone who always smells good is a wonderful reputation to uphold. During our conversation, this specific staffer mentioned that Clinique Happy used to be her favorite perfume. I looked it up online later that day, and when the results only showed resellers, I mistakenly assumed it was no longer in rotation. I was glad to be proven wrong. Once Bath & Body Works (B&BW) launched this year's collection, I searched again, and Google populated the correct search results for me. Clinique Happy is still very much alive and is on shelves at Ulta with a tester bottle too! It is fascinating how the algorithm works. A resurgence of interest in this 1990s classic has brought it back to the forefront of Google and into the minds of a new generation.
That woman belongs in the mature category and mentioned that she loved Clinique Happy because it was fresh and not too floral. Smelling good on her skin and meshing with her scent chemistry was a plus and much better to her than smelling it on a tester stick and not knowing how it would wear on her long-term. To get that perfume to last, she sprayed a pump and then rubbed it together and that worked for her to boost her mood.

At So MoTiFFated, this Editor-in-Chief loves to spray my perfume down! From head to toe, left to right, all over is how I get it to last for me and to make an impact once I walk into rooms. Fragrance is my gift to me and a form of aromatherapy. I am happy to grace the world with my gifts at the same time. It says a lot that a woman can spray a perfume once, break down its application onto both wrists, and it stays. That is evidence that Clinique’s formula has crossed generations because of its quality and its ability to be economical for its consumer. That is the purpose of perfumes, they are more concentrated than body mists and therefore last longer.

On the other hand, Bath & Body Works thrives by reaching a younger audience and a more mature audience that enjoys softer scents that do not hit their senses as hard as perfume. At the time this article is published, B&BW does not have a travel-sized perfume in this scent so you are going to have to spray like your scent reputation depends on it. Packing in the power with its matching body cream will certainly do the trick!

When this collection dropped in January, I was the first to cover it through an in-depth article in 6 Scents, 5 New Muses: Decoding 2026’s Bath & Body Works Designer Inspired Dupes. That article broke down all six scents, serving as your guide to this year’s dupe/designer matches. This journey has been so fun, because although Hello Happiness has been a nostalgic scent, it was brought into existence shortly after I was brought into this world. As cool as it would have been to have known in-depth breakdowns as a baby, that was not the case. This season of my life operating www.somotiffated.com full-time gives me a chance to dive deeper into the history of scents, reaching out to primary sources to get accounts of how they have contributed to joy in women as done with the account that started this article.

HELLO HAPPINESS

HELLO HAPPINESS: $18.95
  • Fragrance Family: Fruity & Bright
  • Key Notes: Sparkling Citrus, Bright Apple Blossom, Golden Mimosa

If you were to close your eyes and spray Hello Happiness and Clinique Happy, you might not know the difference. That is by design. I continue to be in awe of how Bath & Body Works engineers these inspired by dupes, changing the fragrance notes to get almost identical scent for a fraction of the price is what keeps the Everyday Luxuries collection thriving. This vibrant scent is packed with citrus. A sparkling citrus note begins the joy after its spritz from its atomizer, apple is there as an enhancer to its fellow fruit family, topped off with a golden mimosa note that gives it the vibrant fizz that is wanted to keep things bubbly.

It is almost spring time and time to thrive outdoors! As mentioned in my dupe guide, this citrus scent is perfect for a brunch date at a park. Although Valentine’s Day is over, it is still the month of love. Make it a staycation or vacation, if you are visiting Charlotte, by starting the day at the Ballantyne Hotel Spa. As someone who has frequented that establishment for ten years and reviewed it on this site, I find it to be a great way to reconnect to joy. There is now a park behind it and plethora of fun restaurants as a part of the Ballantyne Bowl. Grab food from those restaurants, bring a blanket, and love on favorite person even if that person is yourself. As this site has global readers, definitely find a fun spot in your area and replicate it there!

CLINIQUE HAPPY

CLINIQUE HAPPY: $85
  • Fragrance Family: Floral
  • Key Notes:  Top: Ruby Red Grapefruit, Mandarin; Middle: Magnolia, Lily, Morning-Dew Orchid; Bottom: Honeysuckle, Lily of the Valley

This scent screams fruity elegance that reminds one of the true meaning of happiness. Joy as a standalone. Not tied to any career or educational accomplishment. Just a good time outdoors. For me, that reminded me of the joy of grade school. As this fragrance was released in 1997, soon after I was in elementary school, happily reaching for honeysuckle from the trees for an impromptu snack as done frequently in North Carolina.

I think of this scent like an award show, Screen Actors Guild to be specific. The red grapefruit is the lead actor, followed by the mandarin note as its supporting actress. Its remaining cast members creep in smoothly on the dry down, yet standout as honeysuckle did for me when it ignited a scent memory. Lily being in its middle and bottom notes, doubles down and provides a sweet dependable scent to perfection.

Unlike Hello Happiness being more playful, this one has a layer of charm that should be worn in different environments. It is a great option for church on a Sunday morning or a movie date at night, while wearing a form fitting dress that makes people happy to see your figure on sight.

The Comparison The Match: Hello Happiness The Muse: Clinique Happy
Fragrance Family Fruity & Bright Floral
Top Notes Sparkling Citrus Ruby Red Grapefruit, Mandarin
Middle Notes Bright Apple Blossom Magnolia, Lily, Morning-Dew Orchid
Base Notes Golden Mimosa Honeysuckle, Lily of the Valley
The Investment $18.95 $85.00
If you are someone who is a Clinique Happy faithful, then still stick with what you know! I implore you to try the fancy/frugal combination where you use the body cream from Bath & Body Works in Hello Happiness as your base. Their body cream is incredibly moisturizing and their Hyaluronic Acid and Shea Butter formula provides that bonus. By layering this bold citrus base under your prestige Clinique bottle, you lock in the fragrance and amplify its longevity. It is the ultimate Editor-in-Chief secret for making a beloved 90s classic perform with modern intensity while keeping your skin as radiant as the scent itself.
