Cécred has a new product releasing on the market. Their Restoring Lash & Brow Builder is a serum that will be on Ulta store shelves on September 19, 2026, though it will hit the retailer’s site two days prior. If you don’t want to wait until then to use the product, you’re able to purchase it directly from Cécred’s website right now. But, I know how much you love gaining points through the Ulta Beauty Rewards program, so patience will be your virtue!
Much like all products in Cécred’s lineup, they are expensive. It’s known as a premium brand, so it has premium prices. Now, I have never been to a Beyoncé concert, though I’ve watched them on film, but from what the folks say about her ticket prices, it seems the same can be said about the prices of her beauty products. This serum will run you $48 for 4-mL.
While I do stand by my point of it being expensive, there is something to be said about their being more expensive products on the market for brow and lash growth. Consider Nulastin, they pride themselves on creating products backed by science to grow your lashes and brows. They do this through two separate products, Follicle Fortifying Serum ($84) and Brow Shape Altering Serum ($84), both offered in full sizes of 3-mL. That’s one milliliter less than Cécred’s singular Restoring Lash & Brow Builder, which they tout as doing both very well. Just like with her concert prices, you know you’re paying for someone who will give her all night after night. With Beyoncé’s beauty brand receiving great reviews overall, hopefully this new serum will provide quality results for those who consistently use it over the designated period of time to see results, which is 45 days.
I’ll be honest in saying that I’m skeptical about putting things on or near my eyes to grow anything, whether it be a lash or a brow. Every time that I go to the eye doctor for annual check-ups, they always share that mascara, and the like, aren’t the best for healthy eyes. Although, they understand they aren’t going to get in between a woman and her make-up. I also have an ick about eye-stuff, because I’ve seen some things. So, I doubt this product will be for me, however I love research and was intrigued to learn why this product would captivate the masses. So, Tiffany’s Tribe get another deep dive!
Instead of a review, this read is more of an ingredient analysis from a marketer’s perspective.
My pitch to Cécred’s public relations (PR) team via email went unanswered a few months ago, so I don’t have the product in hand. But, in a month’s time, I’ll update this article for you to see how it looks as well as how the brand decided to show its grand arrival via their in-store display.
Before my boots on the ground journalism can dissect their physical marketing, let’s take a peek at their digital marketing. The new serum’s initial promotional video released via Instagram reminded me of the song “Scream,” by Michael & Janet Jackson. The beauty of the silver slime morphing into the lash and brow product felt like the opening of their nostalgic music video. It seems very fitting. Obviously, Cécred is owned by Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, and she did gain stylistic inspiration from Michael for her 2016 Superbowl halftime performance. Whether or not she did for this product’s promotion remains to be seen.
She does seem very hands off with this haircare line, outside of its press releases and promotional events. Given that her mother, Tina Knowles, is Vice Chairwoman of Cécred and is heavily involved in this brand, I started seeing it a while back as more of her retirement passion project. That being said, they do a good job of making it a brand led by their team and that’s evident by their social media being filled with diversity of race and their products shown on different hair textures. WHY THIS PRODUCT? WHY NOW?
Per Cécred’s press release on August 11, they want to serve consumers who value the “clean girl” and “low-maintenance” beauty look that is on the rise. Their statement makes a point to call out products on the market that seemingly miss the mark. “As people everywhere face sparseness and thinning from overtweezing, wear and tear from makeup application, and aging, they are actively searching for solutions — frequently using temporary fixes, like lash extensions and brow laminations, or accepting the side-effect prone serums to get results.” Hopefully, there are no side effects with this lash and brow product as they share it’s been heavily tested and approved by Dermatologists, Ocular and Ophthalmologists, and lash technicians.
Funny enough, the Cécred team must be social listening, meaning they were browsing through your posts online and saw some of you using the edge drops to make your hair grow in other areas. Their CEO, Grace Ray, noted “We saw an interesting phenomenon after we launched Restoring Hair & Edge Drops — resourceful customers were applying it to their lashes and brows to make them thicker and fuller.” Ultimately, this led them to notice a gap in the market they wanted to fill.
She’s definitely telling the truth, because as I conducted research for this article, I saw a consumer leave a comment under Cécred’s Instagram post that said, “I can’t wait to get my lash drops . . I can’t lie; I was already using edge drops on my brow. Yes, it worked, but I’m excited to use the serum on my lashes.” It didn’t stop there! Someone else mentioned, “Yass! I will turn into Rapunzel by Act III.” The buzz is there for sure. Through being out and about at Ulta, I’ve spoken to several women who have mentioned they buy products from Cécred for several reasons. Either they want to see what the hype is about or to support Beyoncé, and ultimately they become loyal customers or they don’t purchase that specific product again. Regardless, the sales contribute as a value add for Cécred’s revenue generation. SIDE-BY-SIDE INGREDIENT COMPARISON CHART (LASH & BROW SERUM VS. HAIR & EDGE SERUM)
Now, you may be wondering what’s so different about this new serum than their Restorative Hair & Edge Drops Serum. Be that as it may, do not use that product on your lashes. That’s why they created a whole new product as noted above. Trust me, you don’t want that fragrance from the edge drops in your eye balls, as watery as their hair serum is, just don’t do that to yourself.
Note: Ingredients unique to each formula are bolded to highlight functional divergence between eye and scalp application areas.
TIFFANY’S TAKEAWAYS – SIMILARITIES & DIFFERENCES
Identical Ingredients
What initially intrigued me to write this article was that I reviewed the ingredients list for myself. While doing so, I noticed several of the ingredients in the new Restoring Lash & Brown Serum were also in the older Restorative Hair & Edge Drops Serum. I described the familiar ingredients so perfectly in my edge drops review article, that I’ve quoted them below for your easy access. What are peptides? Essentially, they are a vital factor in proteins that are made up of several amino acids working together. Due to amino acids being small, they don’t need to work too hard to get the job done. Small but mighty. They band together to reach your scalp’s outer layers so that it trickles down to your hair follicles. Once they’re down there, they serve as the broadcaster telling your body’s cells receptors what they need to do to get to work! As a lover of LEGOS, I think about peptides being building blocks that create the final masterpiece that is hair growth! Based On Their Ingredient List, They Use The Following Peptides: 1. Acetyl Terapeptide-3 2. Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1 3. Nicotiana Benthamiana Octapeptide-30 sh-Oligopeptide-2 4. Nicotiana Benthamiana Hexapeptide-40 sh-Polypeptide-9 5. Nicotiana Benthamiana Hexapeptide-40 sh-Polypeptide-86 The last three alarmed me at first because when I see nicotiana, I connected that to nicotine. While I was correct, apparently there is no cause for concern because it’s the peptide of it and not the actual plant. So, I had to assume that somewhere some scientist did something with a gene and the plant to create its safe, plant-based final product and that’s what I’m telling myself! Bioactive Keratin Ferment That Is Patent-Pending It includes a mix of fermented lactobacillus, honey, and hydrolyzed wool keratin. The latter being important because keratin is a really important protein that makes up the bulk of your hair. It supports its strength, repairs damage, and prevents breakage. Mixing all three together in a fermented state is what makes it special and given that the honey addition doesn’t make it sticky must be the proof! Rice Powder & Proteins That Are Fermented I’m definitely not saying to drink that old apple cider, but the science behind it hopefully allowed for you to learn why broken-down compounds can be absorbed easier on the body. Having the rice element included in the product makes it a straightforward way to get the benefit of rice’s main vitamin, B8, which is known to mend hair damage. It’s why there are so many rinse-out rice products, because although it has been washed out, its effect still remains.
Essentially, Cécred is leveraging its signature blend of ingredient technology that is proprietary and patent pending across several of their brand’s products. As you can see above, they returned the Bioactive Keratin Ferment complex (Lactobacillus/Honey/Keratin Ferment and Saccharomyces/Rice Ferment Filtrate), combined with the identical quartet of bioengineered plant peptides (Nicotiana Benthamiana series).
Fragrance Removal for New Serum
Believe me now? You should! The Brow & Lash Builder is completely free of fragrance. A major change from their Hair & Edge Drops which smells like their Foundation Collection hair products. If you really want to keep that fragrance in your life, you can purchase a candle set that includes the Temple Oud scent for your home. Until then, remember the old and new serums are not interchangeable. The omission of fragrance seems critical for eye-area safety as it can mitigate potential contact dermatitis near sensitive eyes. If you don’t know what contact dermatitis is, don’t Google it for yourself. Although, now I know you’re tempted. Haha!
A Swap in Botanicals
I do give Cécred credit for using cleaner ingredients and not charging us an arm and a leg for their products. Although, it might seem like it when the product amount starts with 4 and ends with 8. As noted above, they could charge more. So, there is a positive. Clean ingredients really are worth paying for, especially if you’re particular about the ingredients that go into your hair products. Throughout my life, I’ve had reason to be particular, which is why my intrigue to write this article started with examining the ingredients label for myself. While their Edge Drops utilize sensory and circulation-boosting botanicals such as Peppermint Leaf Extract and Ginger Root Extract, since those are known as “hot botanicals” because they have stimulating properties, they were removed from the new serum. The Brow & Lash Builder omits them as those properties can cause stinging around the eyes, instead they add Allantoin which is a soother for delicate skin. Allantoin is a skin protectant that is FDA-approved and is respected in dermatology, because it calms irritation, aids barrier healing, and envelops weightless hydration. For those reasons, the swapped botanical seems to be the evident best option.
Why The Lash & Brow Serum Shouldn’t Be Runny
Xanthan Gum! Now, I’ve seen the movie Unfrosted with Jerry Seinfeild & Melissa McCarthy enough to where most times I hear “xanthan gum,” I think of a scene from that movie. To paint the picture for you, they were trying to figure out how their competitor created a thicker consistency so they could use it for Pop-Tarts.
That gives me a good chuckle every time. If you haven’t watched that movie yet, hopefully you enjoyed the trailer above. The larger point is that xanthan gum is something that you’ve most likely seen before, but didn’t have the time, energy, or interest to dedicate to learning its meaning. It is essentially a gelled texture that is a stabilizer. I know you’ve previously used or eaten a product that uses it, because it’s used in ice cream and smoothies. You wouldn’t want runny ice cream, just like you wouldn’t want to apply a product to make your eye lashes and eye brows grow that would run all down your face.
Again, why I advise against using their edge drops serum on your face is because of how runny it is and I learned that the hard way as I used their edge drops as it came in the package. During its first application to my edges, it was raining serum, and I felt like I instantly lost $2 of that $56 product. That was all it took for me to switch from the drop tip to a spray applicator, which worked wonders until it spilled in my bag on a flight.
You win some and you lose some!
